    IIRC China does have elections, but people can only vote for local councils, and those elected then vote for higher positions; but there’s no parties, and it’s those currently in power that choose the candidates.

      There is certainly a party. However if you run against/outside those chosen by the party. You end up either in prison or dead. But you are otherwise correct. It’s not very Democratic and the people don’t elect anything beyond local Council. Which is beholden to the National Party. So there isn’t much Choice there either. And in a blatant reduction to democracy. Xi Jinping isn’t even subject to election anymore. He is now basically Emperor for life. And no longer subject to nomination or election by Council. And as such has moved back into the Emperor’s Palace the forbidden city. Which was off limits for many many decades since the overthrow of the emperor.
