Well, as alluded to in my comment (Switch 2: 2 Little, 2 Late), they waited too damn long to release a substantial ‘upgrade’ to the Switch.

People have been begging for years for a Switch with faster processors, better performance, etc. When the Switch was 4.5 years old, instead of a Switch 2, they released the Switch OLED instead. Which was pretty, and I got one secondhand for a great price…but that’s not a Switch 2. It’s a slightly better Switch with same chips & a much nicer OLED screen.

People have come to expect an upgraded, improved, “glow-up” console 3-4 years after release. And an entirely new console with great redesigns after 7 years, sometimes less.

N64 release, 1996. GameCube release, 2001. Wii release, 2007, and we entered a glorious age of all kinds of cool Wii shit & Wii minis, an era. 2012 Wii U…meh…then 2017 Switch, which brings us to present times.

So Nintendo is behind schedule. They’ve been rocking the same hardware for 8+ years now…and only now can they be bothered to release a Switch 2 with better specs/hardware. Another $150+ higher in price. No OLED screen, we’re back to LCD, which is fine I guess but we’re charging more for an inferior final product aw neat. Would have cost them like $10 more to put in OLED, and same with these chips & hardware I mean what does it cost them? Now what do they turn around & charge us? After 8 years??

So yeah people are pissed. I’m kinda pissed, and I’m a grown-ass man with no time to play. Seems cool in some ways, but it always looks good on paper. Unless they come out with some really cool exclusives that trigger purchase, like I told my friend today, seems like a great generation to skip. And he agreed.

      Switch 2: 2 Little, 2 Late.

Thanks for your response and all the details.

My experience is primarily docked. Stardew Valley co-op, social games like Jackbox, and Wii Sports.

Games like Rocket League do suffer. My wife was playing Dreamlight Valley and that game obviously chugged.

I understand people don’t like the idea of paying potentially ~$450 + tax for a new switch at this point in the time and still be under the PS5 performance by a good margin. The GPU apparently costs Nintendo $140 alone (thanks Nvidia).
