Because the people are to blame for the problem.

They let their city turn to shit (if you ignore the lore about the city being cursed or whatever), so why do they deserve someone else to fix their mess?

Same as in America, Americans have stood by and let their country turn to shit, do they deserve someone to save them? Nope, but they fucking need it.

Typical victim blaming bullshit. In an inherently corrupt system like that of Gotham or IRL New York or the US in general, 90%+ of the people don’t really have any meaningful control over what the elite does with society.

To blame the oppressed rather than rebel against the oppressors is some useful idiot shit.

People can always rise up and overthrow their leaders. There are countless examples of this happening across the globe and time, the problem is too many are comfortable with their safety in the status quo.

Sure… Because overthrowing a government that doesn’t care about civilian casualties and is backed by the most bloated and over-funded military and police in the history of the world is TOTALLY doable! 🙄

Especially when the nominal political opposition cares more about norms and procedures than actually resisting fascism.

          There are countless examples

None of them with an elite anywhere near as insulated from public pressure as this one, though.

the problem is too many the only ones with the power to fight it are comfortable with their safety in the status quo.

          Fixed it for you.

So are you saying democracy doesn’t work? Yes there is the corruption and all the horrible shit that goes on but no one ever had the chance to nip that in the bud before it got this bad?

The People had elections and they slowly setup then current situation. It is the current citizens having to deal with the system created by those in the past. Some are naive to how the government currently works and some are too easily swayed by misinformation so it is an uphill battle. But we still have free and fair elections so pushing for policy change is possibly. We just have 50% of the population shooting themselves in the foot not demanding the real types of change they actually need.

Nope. I’m saying that a 250 year old system that’s been chipped away at for ages and under the complete control of fascists isn’t going to save people from the fascists.

no one ever had the chance to nip that in the bud before it got this bad?

Is this another strawman or is this you saying that? Because I sure as hell never said nor even implied anything of the sort.

Spotted one of the naive ones 🙄

My comment was because people want to say there is nothing we can do. The issue isn’t about options, its about education and finding a way to make progress when a good portion the electorate will only be in the way.

Spotted one of the naive ones 🙄

Should stop looking in the mirror then.

I’m not licking boots, I’m just pushing back against the narrative that the ruling elite bears none of the blame because the population at large is in control and even if we AREN’T, we can just overthrow them on a whim if we feel like it.

I’m 100% for overthrowing the oppressive kakistocracy. I’m just not in favor of victim blaming or under any illusions about how difficult it’s going to be.
