Canadians, what do you think Carney’s government will realistically be able to accomplish in 30 days, in terms of interprovincial trade?
PM #MarkCarney has made many promises with #CanadaDay as the deadline. To what extent can he make good on them?
@allen @askacanadian I think they’ll make some announcements with some provinces.
Stretch goal: maybe some federal and provincial regulations will be updated via Orders in Council.Nothing requiring passing legislation will happen, since Parliament and the provincial legislatures will not be sitting.
Broad, measurable shifts in inter-provincial trade attributable to Carney/premiers won’t show up for months/years, but we’ll see changes as a result of international tarriff mess.
For 30 days I don’t think we’ll have 100% open free trade across all provinces.
I’d be happy if by that date we had a clear vision of what success looks like (e.g. Newfoundland doesn’t want to jeopardize their locla brewing jobs, what’s the reasonable compromise there), and a broad framework that the provinces could work within, with the specific trade disputes ready to be discussed.
It’s already been 30 days. I’ve not heard or seen any differences.
