Apology from me. We’re moving some things around on the back end, and my non-thinking brain didn’t think to check another admin was online before handing over control of a system to them.
Hopefully, feddit.uk will be back up before the end of the day, assuming nothing horrid happens.
Are there any designated out-of-band channels to communicate in case the server goes down?
I was wondering exactly this - there’s no place to go and chat about where the instance has gone because when it goes down, so does our access everywhere.
In the early days (well, when Tom went AWOL), we set up alternative channels on Matrix.
We might get them posted a bit more prominently, as earlier I was only able to post a message to 50-odd people in the channel. We may also look into setting up a status page that is complete separate from the main site (different domain, hosting, everything).
Ordinarily, there would be a post scheduling the maintenance with alternative channels, but obviously this time I screwed up.
I’ll post in !backend@feddit.uk with some details about what went on later today.
The main gist is: We planned something, then this morning I saw the shiny button we were waiting for.
And instead of going “we’re ready to go, lets schedule things”, I pressed the button not expecting it to do things immediately :|We’re all powerless to resist the shiny button sometimes
I would have done the same.
Do you still have the quackhouse domain? Would be fun to use
Although a subdomain is the sensible option…
Tbf, the status site linked in the sidebar said that it was down, I just had nowhere to go to find out why!
Probably a good opportunity to setup a Matrix channel, or a dedicated backup Lemmy community on another instance
There already is one
Seems like people in this thread couldn’t find it. Is the link in the instance sidebar?
Best wishes!
