Basically I gave some items to a couple people who played on my farm once and can’t get them to come back and drop them back off from their inventories. Is is possible to get my items back without them needing to join and drop them?

You can grab them at the mayor’s house. Same place where you can transfer money around.
Can confirm, this does work and includes their tools. Just in case you ever need tools while upgrading your own…
