I wanted to install Steam via the Software Manager. I click on install, get info that additional software will be installed, I click Continue but eventually end up with this error message. Any ideas what I need to do?

On Mint it’s highly recommended to install the .deb file directly from the Steam Page. There’s dozens of posts about this on the official forums if you are interested in the reasons.
Just a quick guess, did you refresh package lists?
sudo apt update
Or if you use the GUI, in top right there is an icon with 3 horizontal lines, under it is option “Refresh the list of packages”.
It seems that should happen automatically though, but it can’t hurt.If that doesn’t work you could maybe try switching mirrors in software sources, if there is something wrong with these at the moment.
Go to software sources and change both to something that gets good speed. The servers go down every now and then, probably for maintenance.
