If you do want to join, make sure to wear all black, have a mask, keep your location services off on your way to/at/from the protest No Phones (see reply below), and be able to hide anything the police could use to spot you (like a keffiyeh) when the protest is over. But that’s just my opinion. Considering your families position, not going is completely understandable, plus there are other ways to support the movement if you wanted to besides joining a protest.

No phones, period. Your phone has unique identifiers, and police will actively either scan the area, or impersonate a cell tower to collect that information (stingrays). Cell providers will absolutely comply and provide your identity.

It depends on the circumstances but most of the time you will want grey. If you are in a big bloc who have experience protesting, know police strategy, have a decent (protest experienced) lawyer and police station support lined up, know each other well, and are likely to do things like break police lines and want to make it harder for cops to identify which person that is, its perfect.

Eesh that sucks. Gotta break out the black bloc swag and stay the hell away from cameras as much as we can I guess. Friends are respectful but you can’t control every camera in the crowd.

And then you will be disappeared for being against genocide.

EDIT: Sorry I meant for being pro Hamas.

I wonder how pervasive Palestine support would be if people didn’t see it as an opportunity to score social points on social media.

You realize the people protesting don’t post on social media because governments are falsely smearing and criminalizing them as antisemitic and pro-terrorism, right? All the support for Palestine is grassroots, it’s in complete opposition to global capitalism

You’re right if some people weren’t racking up cool social points trying to be anti genocide than maybe the people saying and doing nothing would rise up (???!)
