  • It is because sarcasm needs tone.

not necessarily. you need context and it comes from other places than just tone of voice.

if someone just drops “of course star trek is woke” in the middle of written text in random place, it can be harder to decipher the intent than it would be in voice. but the original commenter did quite a good job to guide reader to understand their position on the topic. combined with what community we are in it is a no-brainer.

yeah, sometimes there are stupid people on the internet, but sometimes a joke is just a joke. in the old days when internet sounded like a tortured robot, people used to say “be conservative in what you send out and liberal in what you receive”. times have indeed changed, but the rule still can come handy sometimes.

  • as pretentious and exaggerated statement as the first one, or so i suspect. while there are unfortunately still slaves in this world, taking your first statement into account, i doubt you are a person who fled from literal slavery.

society is all around you and literally the only way to quit it is to move somewhere where it is not present. which is a deserted island, or few selected areas in central australia, central africa, maybe some northern canada…

but maybe i have it wrong, in that case please enlighten me and explain your secret. how have you exited the society while simultaneously having this discussion on the internet?

  • It’s weird how often people try to pin it on me personally

it is weird how often there are consequences to my own actions… 😆

Me? I’m sticking with safe and legal. I lack the skills and resources to have a sliver of a chance at carrying out the other path successfully, let alone walking away from it with my freedom or life intact.

so what exactly was your point? did you want to encourage others to do what you won’t do yourself? or were you under the impression that people actually don’t jave this very generic piece of knowledge and wanted it to share? guess what, most people lack the skill or resources to do that and get away free, or a will to martyr themselves for it, same as you.

and the people who do have the skills and resources and would be willing to think about it don’t need your advice to do it.

it’s like calling 911 to report that a building is on fire, and the operator asks why I’m not running into it with a bucket.

no, it is like a voyeur watching a house on fire shouting “why isn’t someone running in with a bucket?” and when someone asks “well, why aren’t you?” they start producing some word salad hoping to drown their own words in it…

If you could reverse time travel then the space would conform to the time you travelled to.

Really? What else would conform to the past point in time? Would fabric in my clothes disintegrate and transforms to something else? Would I, because I, well, didn’t exist in that past? Then it wouldn’t really be time travel, would it?

Or would the clothes stay, because they are mine and important for me and would I stay on earth, because that’s my baseline? Is universe somehow “me-centric”? Not really likely, is it?

You need to abandon your idea of time travel as seeking in a video with rewind button.

According to our current understanding of physics time travel is impossible, but we are talking about a word where it is clearly possible, so you can’t really constraint yourself with the limits as we know them now.
