I’ve made it to act 3 and am currently on wrapping up time. My partner is enjoying watching it as she wants to know what happens and I have to fight my innate urge to make bad glass cannon builds that will die if I miss one parry (and also doing all the minigames to get silly outfits) so I can continue through the story at a somewhat brisk pace.

My current system is to allow myself to get influenced by my partner who is a long time member of a pop forum which is based on a common love of Kylie Minogue and Tori Amos, a retired English dude in a football forum that I visit whose special interest is East Asian but mostly Japanese pop/rock/metal/punk (kind of funny to find this, this or this sandwiched between Led Zeppelin and The Moments in the music thread), going through a phase of searching out stuff on my own every now and then and whatever I happen to passively hear driving around listening to the radio while working.

The reason that China wouldn’t make it to America is because there are no passage winds like there are over the Atlantic and the entire trade system was built around the monsoon system in the Indian Ocean (so the ships were built for that rather than passage winds like European ones).
Polynesians did manage to get across to the Americas, but there is far less pressure to find trade routes when you are at the center of a seaborne trade system that spans from East Africa to Oceania. Getting direct access to that market is the major reason for Europeans creating ocean faring vessels. The likely explanation is that the playtesters are now used to Death Stranding mechanics since Death Stranding already exists. I remember there being a lot of people who thought Demons Souls and Dark Souls 1 were bad because they weren’t used to the mechanics, and now Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies to almost universal acclaim.
