The US is probably the outlier here with too few regional accents given the vast land mass. I would attribute it to the population growing alongside the successive innovations of rail, radio and television so that regional dialects blended into each other.

I thought The Last Samurai was mostly forgettable but I recently watched the Shogun remake and have to admit I was impressed. Stunningly gorgeous cinematography and masterful acting by everyone in the cast. They took pains to reduce the Eurocentricism from the source material, but the protagonist is still a white dude so there is some lingering White Saviorness to it. But he’s mostly portrayed as a lovable buffoon and witness to the historical events unfolding around him rather than its impetus. Sanada and Sawai are the real stars here.

An ethnic mob surrounding an outnumbered cop and no one got shot. Would turn out quite differently if the mob was a different ethnicity. And that poor woman lives in this neighborhood. She will have PTSD any time she leaves her apartment.

Genius PR move. He gets to look the part of the populist to his base and conveniently deflects blame to his opponents when it inevitably fails to pass.

I hear eastern Oregon is absolutely teeming with Nazis. Probably a lot more in total numbers than Idaho or Montana.
