Bruja [she/her, love/loves]@hexbear.netto chat@hexbear.net•It's wild how "Karen" started out as calling out racism and now it's just a way for sexist people to shame women for not performing gender roles.English4·48 minutes agoPeople were absolutely using “Karen” amongst a few other names for the entitled white woman stereotype, but the catalyst for standardising “Karen” was specifically about the racist Central Park Karen video viral. Around that time and George Floyd and BLM summer riots. The peak “Karen” was about BLM against racist white women. And it has since been watered down like a lot of the energy of the summer of 2020.
As this graph shows, “Karen haircut” peaked during the 2020 summer of BLM.

- 2018 BBQ Becky - YouTuber posted a video entitled “White Woman Called Out for Racially Targeting Black Men Having BBQ in Oakland”.
- 2018 Permit Patty - Oakland, California woman called the police on an eight-year-old black girl and her mother for selling water outside her apartment. Her profession as the CEO of a medicinal marijuana company for animals was pointed at as illustrative of the difference between being white and black in America.
- 2018 Pool Patrol Paula - Arrested for accosting a group of black teenagers while trying to forcibly remove them from a public swimming pool in South Carolina.
- 2018 Baggage Claim - A female baggage claim attendant who was filmed refusing a black woman the name and contact of a manager, after the attempted to report a customer service issue at Logan International Airport in Boston.
- 2018 Cornerstore Caroline - A female resident of Brooklyn, New York, who became the subject of a online scutiny, after accusing a nine-year old black child of sexual assault and calling the police on him. The allegations were later refuted by surveillance footage of the incident.
- 2018 Golf Cart Gail - A white woman who was the subject of controversy, after calling the police on a black father watching his son’s soccer game.
6 major incidents in 2018 alone. But a 2020 viral incident that got ‘Karen’ to stick.
- 2020 Central Park Karen - The incident that led to the internet coming to a consensus, much to the chagrin of nice women named Karen everywhere. “Central Park Karen” is the white cop-caller nickname of Amy Cooper, who was recorded calling the police on an African American birder in Central Park in New York City after being asked by him to leash her dog in the park.
- later in 2020 San Francisco Karen - A white man and woman confronted a person of color who was stenciling Black Lives Matter in chalk on their own property. In the video, the woman, Lisa Alexander, assumed James Juanillo was not the property owner and called the police.
A white couple call the police on me, a person of color, for stencilling a #BLM chalk message on my own front retaining wall. “Karen” lies and says she knows that I don’t live in my own house, because she knows the person who lives here.
https://twiiit.com/jaimetoons/status/1271300265170186240Since then it’s been almost entirely “Karen” and like “woke” and so many other appropriations of Black culture, has been taken from original anti-racist meaning to just be another misogynistic term for “disliked woman” or “man acting like an entitled woman”.

Manjaro is also working on a version for handhelds and is working with at least one hardware manufacturer to ship it by default, so that’s a decent rec as well.
Bruja [she/her, love/loves]@hexbear.netto libre@hexbear.net•Deciding on Linux distro in 2025English5·5 hours agoNobara works great and is now a rolling district so never have to upgrade. Strongly dislike redhat and things they’ve done and pulseaudio and systemd but gave Nobara a try and it’s a great linux experience with batteries included. Don’t like having to join a discord server for support, but the community there has had answers for the rare time a Proton/Nobara issue has come up.
Bazzite as the atomic gaming district also based on fedora is nice, installed it on a laptop for more portable gaming than the Nobara desktop and it’s been fun. If used to non-atomic linux there’s a slight learning curve with how a few things are done but have stuck with it a while after district-hopping on the notebook several times. Had compatibility issues with hardware/software trying Mint and such on that device and Bazzite just worked out of the box on the weird hardware so a great first impression but YMMV.
PikaOS is the Debian-based version of Nobara and the projects have a lot of crossover. Will likely be the next distro to try, saw the others first and they haven’t given a reason to switch or want to put up with even the minimal effort of hopping.
CachyOS would be the Arch-based version, but heard of people saying it’s better for desktops and plug-in notebooks because by default the battery life is bad and takes some tweaking after install, so haven’t tried it yet. The kernel mods cachy does are also used in Nobara and PikaOS. There’s a custom cachy proton, which can be installed on any distribution.
RegataOS is different, SuSe-based and gaming focused but follow a different path than the above. The installer had issues with specific weird hardware so didn’t get a chance to try it out.
Pop! OS is Ubuntu-based and from all accounts good. The gaming-specific auto-configs of the above aren’t absolutely necessary and many prefer tweaking their own bases. The new wayland-based window manager is impressive so far, but have been sticking with kde/gnome for now. Again, all of that customisable and the commentary is mostly about out-of-the-box stuff.
Out of Nobara v Pop! would go with Nobara but there’s almost no wrong choice and if gaming on steam most games work great out of the box with no fuss. And gaming has been so much better than it was on windows. Haven’t been able to convince gaming friends to switch, yet they constantly complain about games not working on windows without having to fool around with settings for an hour.
Hope it works out as well for you!
She has one she refers to as “Humpty-Dumpty”.
I can’t force myself to be even fictionally cruel to any other type of man. It makes the performance a lot easier. I could never be mean to someone who wasn’t white, because the world is run by white men, isn’t it?
Once I sweep away the capitalist achievements, then what remains are their real desires. Most men never even consider what their masculinity is based on, which is the frightening thing.
May as well start writing the “Greta Thunberg and Liam Cunningham among those murdered by the IOF” article.

While some would be sad to have a mushroom taken, this one is likely to be annihilated. Without knowing what kind of shroom may not be a good idea. Getting some spores for edible mushrooms to seed the stump may be better, iirc substrate is often sterilised first though so look into it first.
