Actually upon further reading, the vocalist here (named Legion) on this Witchery album used to be in Marduk, who’ve had members (vocalist Mortuus and drummer Fredrik Widigs) purchase merch and memorabilia from Swedish neo-nazi group Nordic Resistance Movement. Not sure how close it is to our band Witchery here, but I’ll definitely be more cautious moving forward.

Edit for clarification on which vocalist did a no-no.

Apart from the name of the album itself, and the strong imagery, this band does not hold bigotry of that nature. At least according to any research I’ve done. Rest assured I will personally never promote or post here any bands who actually do follow that type of shit. I’ll repeat here that I used to adore Iced Earth’s first handful of albums but since January 2021 I’ve dropped them from all lists, and have encouraged others to do the same.

Edit: Found this interesting list with bands and their status of any ties to nazi ideology. Bathory has a “Mild Sketch” status:

    spoiler

“Bathory has an unresolved history of using fascist symbols and iconography, such as the infamous sunwheel on the back of Hammerheart. Quorthon was also confirmed to hold conservative views. That being said, many of the symbols that they used such as runes were done in the context of ancient Norse and Viking cultural references, and Quorthon’s political beliefs were inconsistent with fascism. He believed that the church stifled human progress, Nazism should not be mixed with Odinism, metal music and subculture are inconsistent with National Socialist views and would not exist in a fascist society, and that Filipinos dying of natural disasters and Africans dying of starvation should be seen as a tragedy at least on the level of 9/11.”

Which makes me raise an eyebrow a bit as I’ve posted here a few stuff from Bathory.

  • My father put me on the Metallica train, so some could feasibly question my tastes lol. But when I dove deeper into more and more extreme metal myself, it was rather kind of spiritual.

I remember absolutely hating anything death metal or audible double bass that every “cool kid” at the time was into. I’d only listen to shit like, Manowar’s Kings of Metal album, a Metallica “greatest hits” compilation which I was missing a disk lol, even some Judas Priest (Tim Owens era). I overcame my poor taste by listening to Slayer’s Angel of Death finally and branching off from there. I count myself lucky to have known a friend back then who knew how to pirate stuff. Discovered Vader, Kalmah, and even Dragonforce (before their popularity) through him, as well as taught me how to torrent stuff, myself.
