That is appalling, and 100% on your advisor. You should never let someone do the defense unless it is basically a formality and you are completely certain they will pass. A good advisor will always tell you if you need to tighten things up well before you get to that point. Most people end up with some revisions, but letting someone defend and then not passing them is unconscionable. Really sorry that happened to you.

trope ever. He has deliberately constructed his personality this way because Reddit broadly thought he was cool in the 2010s, so he decided to lean into everything they loved until he became a Reddit tulpa. It’s deeply pathetic.
Dude has absolutely ghoulish political views, but this does make me feel somewhat bad for him. Sounds like he is in a seriously bad place, and I can’t imagine the job he’s doing (or the way he’s doing it) would be good for anybody’s mental or physical health.
