  • After Bush’s foreverwar and decades of being lied to about policy I want. That I was baited with in order to gain my vote, (Universal Healthcare if you’re curious) I don’t want us to win. If we can’t at minimum have things that developed countries take for granted I don’t want the US to continue. 800+ military bases. Sanctions on most of the world, which in itself is just economic warfare. So its just more war. We provide almost nothing that someone else doesn’t make both better and cheaper. Unless you count undeserved ego. We are the undisputed world champs at undeserved ego. We’ve been huffing our own farts since the Soviets won WWII for us. I mean, the math is easy. It’s a classic trolley problem. 350,000,000 vs 8,000,000,000. Don’t even have to think about it.

And its not like our fall was unexpected. At least not in the circles I run in. (Broke mfers) We could see obvious shit like how infinite growth + finite resources = inevitable collapse. How scarcity is engineered to maintain the systems of capital and control. We could feed the planet with 2 midwestern states worth of hydroponic farms. Could have it built and operational before the next election. But to even suggest such a thing is the very height of lunacy. Just over the hill and through the woods into new and unknown lands of just snake-fuckingly crazy. Yeah we’ve limped along for a while. Shambling from one “correction” to the next. Don’t know how old you are but that wasn’t a thing that happened every 6-8 years before like 2000. This whole thing is over. We still feel the momentum because it takes a while for something this big to wind down. But make no mistake it is done. Middle class is history. We have rich mfers so obscenely wealthy that by the time they find a way to spend all the money they have on today’s date their descendants will refer to us modern humans as primitive monkeys. If our avarice lets the human race survive that long. If we don’t snuff ourselves in one pointless war or another. AI is wiping out entire industries. And there are no guardrails. No regulations. Nary a thought to what that landscape is going to look like in a year or two. You seen Google’s new Veo 3? In a couple weeks your grandma is gonna see a newscaster on FB that is a flawless AI generation indistinguishable from a flesh and blood human. And its going to tell her some shit like “Scientists discover a signal from Heaven and Jesus is quoted as saying President Donald Trump is my avatar on earth until I come back” and she’ll believe it. Because why wouldn’t she? They’ve been trained to believe that all reputable news is fake and absolute horse shit is the secret truth only known to them and their friends.

There’s a chance that we can throw off the yoke once things get bad enough for us soft, comfortable americans to get mad enough to do something real. And that time is coming. It is definitely swelling now. You see stuff like Luigi. A ceo got capped and the nation cheered. A distraught father avenged his son by turning a member of the enforcement arm of capital into fender ketchup, and the nation cheered. People are getting angrier. Can’t afford a home. Can barely feed ourselves. Retirement is a really funny joke. 401ks were a bandaid to cover the wound left behind by the end of pensions. And now they’re useless too. People are “retiring” now and don’t have nearly enough to retire on in modern day america. Long story short. The “American Dream” is dead and buried. A house, a car, 2.5 kids, white picket fence. They don’t exist anymore. Private Equity bought up all the houses. Kids are too expensive. The picket fence is an HOA violation.

Every single jot of the social contract that made this giant ponzi scheme we call The United States function has been systematically destroyed. We’re staring down the barrel of climate catastrophe. Can’t make a living. Can’t afford kids. People either see no future or a future so bleak that the idea of bringing a child into it is a cruelty beyond description.

So no. I’m not interested in preserving this failed experiment. Not without some pretty radical changes within the next decade or so.

  • For a good 15 years I have been yelling from the rooftops that America was reaching a breaking point. That it was going to improve and break towards socialism or get worse and break towards fascism. I didn’t know which as there was no way to account for all the variables. But I knew it would break one way or the other.

Now I know. I have my answer. I’m not smug about it. Its pretty fucking depressing actually. But it’s done. And it wont be stopped. Might slow it down. But the dems have been playing against an ever increasingly stacked deck since the Reagan Administration. Disinsentivizing education, anti-intellectualism, grievance politics, outright lies dressed up as “entertainment” and more.

The Republicans played a long game to engineer this coup that virtually nobody saw coming. Not even they themselves. But now that they have it they will play it to the hilt and twist the blade once driven home. Meanwhile the Democrats have abandoned working people. This began before Reagan btw. When they sold out Labor in the 70s. Since then they’ve become a rich man’s party. Leadership is all billionaires and soon to be billionaires. They’re comfortable with the same oligarchs that the GOP answers to. That venn diagram is pert-near a circle. Their actions and policies reflect that primarily in their delusion about US politics. They’re so caught up in rules and norms and respectability that they never saw the knife. Had no idea. Now they’re reeling. But I don’t expect them to learn anything from this. That’s not their way. They seem to embody the definition of insanity in that regard. As this is hardly the first time that running to the right has lost them almost everything. The “Schumer Strategy” - “for every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin.” - has proven time and again to be a resounding failure.

That isn’t to say that a hard turn into economic populism is the magic bullet that will save the country. I personally believe it’s too far gone. It may flounder on a few more cycles. Maybe a generation. But no one can deny that we are an empire in decline. We have hemorrhaged standing and respect across the world for decades now. Beginning with Bush’s War on Peace in the Middle East. Now with our absolute refusal to put a stop to a genocide that all 8,187,000,000 humans on this planet can see happening live on their phones. Because “American Interests” in the region demand we not only allow it but enable it at every opportunity. Our economic warmongering necessitated the creation of BRICS. Which will supplant us in time. More countries are joining all the time, and more of those countries are dropping the Dollar for trade. Of course in western media its all roses and sweet tea. They’ll never admit how bleak things truly are. This empire is going down. All of us? We’re just home. I have no expectations of surviving it. And no desire to fight through an apocalypse. Be that societal collapse or climate catastrophe. Or maybe I’m full of shit, the Dems pull a coup of their own in the midterms and save the goddamn day. Big damn heroes style. Who knows?

Just carrying on the long long history of punishing the workers who dared take up arms to defend themselves a century ago.

Unlikely to change any time soon. That punishment has included the above derision, plastered all over all forms of media for decades. As well as generational economic punishment. GovCo shat on Appalachia from such a height they’ve never yet recovered and likely never will. Look at the response to the devastation from that hurricane.

Only people on this continent that got a worse hand are the indigenous and black folks in southern states.
