  • Nukes. We know they have them and missiles to deliver them. Any situation where a wildcard like North Korea uses nukes in any offensive capacity is terrifying. “Nuclear War: A Scenario” is a great modern book on how things could go to hell if one single North Korean nuclear missile is launched towards the United States.

Artillery. In any case of open war on North Korea anyone within artillery range of the NK border will be bombarded with heavy shelling. Even if it lasted for just an hour or two before the batteries were eliminated the civilian casualties and destruction would be like a large natural disaster. Now imagine if chemical shells were added to the mix, because they have those too.

China has the most leverage to help North Korea on a humanitarian and diplomatic level without risking war, so if it could be done the best chance is through them.

  • I agree! The 2nd amendment isn’t for the right or left. It is for EVERYONE, some people just chose to ignore it because they could. It’s easy to make fun of open carry gun nuts and paranoid preppers, but you know maybe a government that is unwilling/unable to help you isn’t so far fetched after all

Anyone can buy similar stuff, train at a range every month or so to get proficient (dry fire is fine too if you don’t have a range), read a few military manuals your tax money paid for. Being a responsible gun owner may sound daunting but it’s not.

Then work on physical fitness a bit, enough to take a 5+ mile hike without dying. Learn some first aid too because everyone should be able to deal with a gunshot wound anyway.

In the end you can’t assume that your political opponents to take risks for you

  • Ukraine was invaded, twice, with Russia as the aggressor. That isn’t Ukraine’s fault and they have every right to kick Russian ass as long as it takes for Russia to pull out or negotiate. Both will be politically painful so the war goes on.

And if you’re in a shooting war with Russia, who better to ask for weapons than the US? Even old outdated US equipment was designed to take on Soviet equipment so yeah you want them as friends to give your nation a fighting chance and prove to Russia and the international community that they won’t be pushovers.

And look at NATO. They are bumping defense GDP to 5%. Finland, Poland, Estonia and others are withdrawing from agreements that forbid the placement of anti-personnel mines. Even if this war ends tomorrow, nobody seems to think Russia will be satisfied for long

  • Your comment reminded me of number stations. They are radio broadcasts with seemingly random numbers getting transmitted every now and then. A well known one is “The Russian Buzzer

They are really long range, and just about anyone can listen in to these transmissions. But only a tiny number of people (in the buzzer’s case maybe Russian spies) know the meaning and act on those signals.

I guess my point is that ultimately nobody can really stop the signals, including dog whistles. And I think it’s silly when people try to make some of those words taboo. For example if “roommates” is a code word for a queer couple living together the legit use of the word doesn’t just disappear
