That seems to be the general direction at this point. reminds me of r/HailCorporate, calling out posts that are really advertisements but don’t explicitly tell you they are.

The irony is that reddit ripped off digg’s original UI nearly 95% identically. I hope they keep a similar format because the Digg redesign sucked and everyone hopped over to reddit, then reddit made that god-awful new UI that I can’t even bother to use at all (you can opt out of the ‘new design’ in your user preferences/settings) but at this point, reddit is practically useless anymore. They’ll probably be censoring any links to digg once it comes back up as people tell other users that there’s a reddit alternative.
Shoutout to https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
It uses 0.0.0.0 for tens of thousands of bad domains, so I use this as my baseline on my systems.
The sweet irony of this is that digg.com is coming back. I’m on the early subscription list for when they finally release it. There’s going to be a point in time where reddit is just 80% bots talking to each other, I bet.
Is it possible to join an instance but filter out specific federated posts? Like I would like to join an instance like that but filter out hexbear… a little too psychotic for my taste.
I’m on my 2nd 7-day site-wide suspension on this new account as of today. Had two older accounts permbanned. Then I recently got an automod to tell me my account was flagged for upvoting “hateful content” likely related to me upvoting Luigi posts. Reddit is fully unhinged at this point, what a cesspool.
Same here! My second 7-day site-wide suspension, I’m guessing ban next. I got flagged with warnings for upvoting something related to Luigi as “violating the rules by upvoting hate posts.” It’s like fucking 1984 over there now.
Same here, but the bots don’t even tell you the “wrongthink” post that you upvoted so you have no idea how to avoid upvotes that will flag your account with a warning/ban. It’s fucking psychotic on reddit now. Like watching the Titanic sink at this point.
Makes me wonder if a social site could advertise a “bot-free” environment somehow. Some sort of verification system, one e-mail, one verification picture (handwritten note picture maybe, not face or anything.) And only 1 account per human, no bots… I feel like that’s going to have to happen eventually at the rate AI is going. Facebook is probably half-AI bots at this point already.
I went through a phase where I would find good posts on reddit and then just copy the link and post here… but as of now, reddit is like 95% anti-Trump posts so it’s all noise. Lemmy is fairly noisy with that lately too but not as bad. I need to figure out a better way to filter out politics because it’s ruining online discussion even in non-political threads, somehow it devolves into “orange man bad” somehow at some point and it’s just tiresome going over the same topic over and over with the same talking points. Musk nazi, orange man bad… when you see it 50000000000 times it just gets old after a while, with RES I am able to filter out subs which helps immensely but I don’t think that’s possible here. But like r/pics, r/interestingasfuck, r/lotr, r/lego, r/technology, r/news, many many others… 90% political now, so the majority of the site is useless to me now. And it feels like it’s majority bots now, probably LLM-generated discussion through an API, dead internet theory is in full speed ahead mode.
I think the mainstream isn’t quite ready for the fediverse yet, I see people complaining about not knowing which instance to sign up for and how it works on reddit here and there. I just got a 7-day site-wide suspension because I guess I said something the admins didn’t agree with (didn’t violate any ToS, they just see something they don’t like and banhammer.) This is why decentralization is the key to the future, reddit admins/mods are psychotic power hungry assholes 99% of the time it seems.
I’ve exclusively used firefox to watch youtube on Arch and Ubuntu for years, never had a problem so far for what it’s worth. I keep a laptop in the livingroom with Arch specifically to have adblocking and piping the video out to the TV. The youtube apps are terrible on the Roku last I remember, haven’t tried it in forever but I think the main reason was I didn’t want to see ads anymore.
I got a warning for upvoting a Luigi post (or a post that reddit deemed as “wrongthink”), the bot didn’t say which sub or post that triggered it so it’s kind of impossible to say for sure or even avoid getting banned from upvoting something they don’t like.
I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that the RDDT stock price has dropped 40% in the last month, and it’s not surprising. That site is a sinking ship.
I mean Jesus did literally walk into temples and flip tables over and kick people out for bad behavior, so this isn’t far off.
Yeah, google ITEP and see that they are classified as “left leaning”. I feel like this lemmy instance is all hard-left at this point.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/01/12/trump-tax-cuts-2024/
Isn’t their source of data characterized as “left-leaning”? How valid is this information?
Why would a pro-Trump supporter blow up a car outside of one of his properties? Something doesn’t add up. And in one picture he had a pro-Ukraine shirt on. Doesn’t really make sense.
I’m not registered to vote, where did I mention trump at all in my comment? “Your opinion is different than mine, PISS OFF TROLL HURRRRR DURR mouth frothing”. Great argument, was great speaking with you today, thanks for your contribution.
To be fair I would say a mass-orchestrated event of committing arson and destruction of private property across the nation should be classified as domestic terrorism… if you remove politics from the equation, it’s still terrorism.
