Pretty sure paying for someone to do your homework is a thing in India for the wealthy. There are also lots of rich students, who were failed by teachers in tests, give a not so subtle threatening question “do you know who my father is?” As a result, plenty of people attain higher job positions without the actual merit.

I am going on tangent and say that her seminal and widely praised book, “Eichmann in Jerusalem: The Banality of Evil” is one of the most boring books I have ever read. I was expecting a more philosophical discussion and more focused about Eichmann, but it turned out to be more like an objective journalism, or even a bureaucratic administrative report that would make you sleep. So many jargons and names it is hard to keep up. The little bureaucratic details unfortunately bores me. I had to skip to the end where it finally talked about banality of evil. I appreciate that the book gave insight into the logistics and intricacies of the Holocaust, but sorry if I want to read a history book, I would buy one. I was expecting a more abstract and philosophical discussion about the nature of evil.

Another worth noting is if an antivaxxer says “we don’t know what they put into vaccines”, respond with “we don’t know what they put in painkillers and yet you take them no problem”. Nine times out of ten, these antivaxxers would take painkillers willy nilly without question. Saying this makes them question their line of thought. Heck, the same could be said just about anything. We don’t know what cooks in restaurants put into the food we ordered, and yet there is no significant movement advocating to stop ordering takeaways or eating outside of home.

After college, I realised this after working in a stressful job. Much of what they teach us in school about being on time, wearing uniforms, obedience to authority and meeting project deadlines, it is to prepare us for the cut throat working environment and conditions. Of course we have to be taught common manners, how to be polite and all other basic things, but a lot of it is to train us to be efficient and unquestioningly obedient workers. The legacy of Prussian education system still lingers.

I have been following the war in Ukraine since the beginning. From the look of it, I think Russia ran out of steam. Their offensives slowed down in Kharkiv and even on eastern Ukraine. These areas would be reinforced after Kursk is done and I doubt Sumy will be attacked. In some sense, the attack in Kursk worked a little bit to draw Russian resources away from other fronts.
