There are two kinds of Americans. One kind fully understands what’s going on and is horrified. The other kind thinks it’s fine(if they think about it at all) but only because they figure they won’t be affected by it. Right now, that second group dominates. At some point, the numbers will tip in the opposite direction, but it won’t be pleasant.

As someone who grew up during the height of the Cold War, it’s hard to describe how shocking a statement like this is. The US spent trillions of dollars to prevent something like this from happening to anyone in the government, to have the president compromised laughs in the face of all that.
Note the date and the fact that it was in Mad Magazine. No wonder our parents didn’t want us to read it.
