Two_Hangmen@midwest.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a regional pronunciation of a word that seems normal to you but is weird to people from other parts of the country?2·11 days agoI live in the U.S., and my state capitol is spelled Pierre, but pronounced “peer”.
Two_Hangmen@midwest.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you microwave water for tea?1·18 days agoIf you’re using distilled water there’s not enough minerals in the water to start the boiling process before the temperature crosses 100 C because microwaves heat it up so fast.
It also doesn’t necessarily have to be distilled water, but the the closer it is to just H2O, the higher the chance this will happen.
I think the big issue with centrists is they pay absolutely no attention to what’s really happening, but wear the term “centrist” like a badge of honor.
So on one end we have Nazis, and the other end we have Democrats who are mostly Center-Right, and then the centrists try to find the middle of that but not having any idea if what that means.
And then we keep getting the enshitification of the U.S.
I didn’t grow up in Wyoming but it was a rural state in the U.S. People romanticize rural areas until they actually live in one. If if you have a large town nearby and and your wealthy, or at least upper middle class it might be ok, but I’d highly recommend staying where you are.
It’s not just the medical care, it’s the culture. When you move to a rural area, if you aren’t at least the 3rd generation you’ll be looked at and treated as an outsider. That doesn’t mean people will be hostile towards you, but you won’t really be part of the community either.
The entertainment, food, and shopping options are also be very limited.
Edit: “recommend staying where you are”

I’m in the U.S. and have a friend that serves court papers for the local county, and when people try this shit the court will often just enter a “not guilty” plea because it’s a preliminary hearing.
When trial starts and they try this again, or they just don’t show up, is where they start to get in real trouble. He said most of them will change their mind about being sovereign citizen after they start to spend some time in jail.

Two_Hangmen@midwest.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I a dick if I don't want to meet an old friend for coffee if she brings her babies along?55·2 months agoExactly this. People will have kids then expect other people to help out because “it takes a village”. Fuck that, figure out who’s willing to be in your village, THEN have kids.

The wealth gap has been steadily getting worse since Reagan was in office, with Republicans and Democrats.
Reagan had an advisor that basically said you can’t say ni**er anymore, so you have to use coded language when talking to white people.
Hillary Clinton coined the term “super predators”, so it’s not just a Democrat/Republican issue.
People either have to accept that they’ll do better when everyone does better, or just keep licking the boot that’s on their neck.
I worry they’ll just keep licking.

In Los Angeles, county and city officials have also moved to take control of an agency that oversees homeless funding after audits found the agency spent money recklessly.”
I’m all for getting people into permanent housing instead of living tents. But when you piss away 24 billion that was supposed to do just that, there’s going to be a lot of people who don’t want to fund it anymore.
I still think it should be funded, but I don’t know what the best solution is to make sure the money is used appropriately.
Striking helps, solidarity striking helps more, but wildcat strikes are the best.
If you haven’t heard of them, they’re the reason the U.S. federal government started to recognize unions, but gave the caveat that unions had to announce they would strike.
With wildcat strikes, there’s no announcement, you just do it. It fucked with the upper class so much they recognized unions to outlaw wildcat striking.
