Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is Blender's DOGWALK Even Libre?English2·2 days agoThere is a difference between engine code and game’s code. There is definitely custom code written specifically for the game. And that code should be published too. And it should be licensed too. And at the moment the way it is published kind of makes it unclear whether the game is libre or not.

Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?English285·25 days agoThere is evidence already in that video that suggests that he is starting to lean more left. Like he pointed out the ecological issues with AI. Even though he did say “I don’t like to be that guy” before saying that.
It seems like he is already doing some doubts and thinking that are signs of moving the left direction.
I’m trying to be the optimist here. If we want not just PewDiePie, but his subscribe-base to change sides, we need him to be extra careful and extra soft with this sort of change. He seem to know how to form good streams of thoughts and convincing narratives. This would take some serious carefulness on his part. And it seems like he is already taking small steps to do that.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?English8419·25 days agoThe fact that PewDiePie might have a right-leaning following, that he acquired by himself leaning right, which he now exposes to Freedom, using Libre Software, might actually be a good thing. Since exposing yourself to the philosophy of Free Software eventually leads to human rights and thus to the left, in a way. If PewDiePie course-correcting to the left like this, taking his enormous subscriber-base with him, IMO it is very good.

Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English2·1 month agoMaybe I am just overly optimistic. I don’t know. But it seems like with enough gimmicky advertising tricks we could get enough people excited about giving money.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English21·1 month agoIf there is a new gimmick there is, by definition, a change of some kind. Which means maybe all we need to do is tweak a few very easy to tweak parameters and that will unclog the flow of money. I don’t know if that is what going to help. But not just try and see what happens?
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English21·1 month agoThat is because the problem is not solved yet. Again “We have to solve the money problem!”
That means it is nowhere near being solved. It will be solved when FSF staff ( from donations ) will have a life worthy of envy. And any fediverse admin too. And any libre software developer too.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English1·1 month agoI think that we need to have a panic making notification when some instance is below a comfortable ( of it’s operator ) level of money. So that people could direct their money into stopping the panic. Basically I want automatic sense of urgency when and where it’s needed. FSF does it well. When they are low on money they just make a progress bar on every page they operate, with a link to a donation page. It works amazingly for them, because it immediately creates a sort of soft panic about the health of the FSF.

on IRC, or who helps to organize the Libre Planet. Or people who buy computers from the Ministry of Truth. Aka people that are as serious about this ( if not more serious ) than Richard Stallman.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Clarifying Costs of Running the Fediverse with Jerry from Infosec.ExchangeEnglish12·1 month agoWe failed the instance operators if they need to lie about money. What we need to insure is that those people can both run the instance and live a live worth of envy from the money provided by the supporters. Meaning any money above the costs is good money. Any money below the margin of live worthy of envy is not enough money. The line is not at being able to pay for hosting. The line is at live worthy of envy.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English2·1 month agono one accounts for the labor of the admins and moderators
These need to be part of the report. We have to fund not just hardware, but good life ( worthy of envy ) of those people. If their lives aren’t worthy of envy now, the fediverse isn’t healthy and we need to donate more.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English2·1 month agoWe need to make it easy to check the financial health of an instance. And things like costs and money made from donations should be visible, and rendered as progress bars or charts. So people would know when and to whom to donate.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Clarifying Costs of Running the Fediverse with Jerry from Infosec.ExchangeEnglish8·1 month agoI know a pretty substantial amount of those people. But most likely they will not object to it. They will just see that the option is not there and move on. They are kind of already used to not seeing an option. Many of them don’t even look for it, or even think there could be one. Only maybe FSF has donation options for those people.

This is exactly the thing that should optimized immediately. Store relevant content. Delete after it is not relevant. Fetch it back if it is relevant again.
Blender Dumbass@lm.madiator.cloudOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•We have to solve the money problem!English1·1 month agoThe expense of running busy servers is too much to expect of anyone
We have to think about that a lot of people on the fediverse today ( and that number only grow the more people join ) that are normies. They expect it work the same exact way anything else works. And they won’t know or care to know any of the underlying technical things about it.

The difference here is that the game is gratis. Its the source code that initially didn’t come with the game you get.
