  • my 2c as someone who isn’t in a position to give financial aid but could help with some things like helping teach skills, review CVs, drive someone places, be a fake reference, help with shopping etc, potentially put someone up short term, and the like:

    • the comm seems to incentivise only financial aid. Fine, money solves a lot of problems, wish I had more.

    • Because of the competitive nature of posting users seem incentivised to dramatise their needs. Some posts have seemed medically implausible, which does not mean someone doesn’t need help it just makes it hard to understand where you can be effective and potentially drowns out folks presenting their needs in a more low key fashion.

    • People don’t list the currency they need which makes it hard to know if you can afford to help

    • One off vs expected chronic needs are not differentiated. Stuff like “For the forseeable future I need a place to live” and “I am sick and need cash to see a doctor” have vastly different scopes and solutions, and put very different degrees of obligation on someone willing and able to help.

I dunno what the solution is, life is hard as fuck. Hoping there’s a way to help more people get what they need.

  • It’s actually difficult to reliably OD. Not that I would recommend suicide but I would especially not recommend routes with a good chance of leaving you alive with organ, inc brain, damage.

    Don’t intentionally OD.

CW: Discussion of personal experience of an OD attempt

My ex, who is the smartest guy I’ve ever known tried to OD. He went very hard, without details there were layers. He was found and lived, and very luckily for him had only minor brain injury and somewhat serious lung damage.

The experience was traumatic as fuck for him and everyone who was there and his entire family.

I say this as like, if a determined person who is medically educated and thinks they have a foolproof plan they’ve planned for months can fuck up and live (yay!) then anyone can. Don’t OD, it’s not a painless way out.

  • Seems like the nats want to bend them over the barrel and force them to embrace bribes for the regions + insane culture war stuff and the libs are like “we’re 19 votes behind in our most secure seat in histo wtf are you doing?”

But since neither party can hold power without the other, and the nats play so well with morons voting against their own interests, I think there will be enormous pressure for ‘moderate’ libs remaining to stfu and fall in line.

It would be extremely funny if the party splintered and the right wing vote got split between the fundies and the bougies.

I just want proportional representation so my fantasy daydreams about having an actual democracy one day can seem even slightly plausible.
