  • I think a lot of ground can be gained by being nü-atheists but for the empire instead of religion. Liberals will say “colonialism, imperialism, neo liberalism” this and that, using all the right words, so why are you trying to save that shit by voting for Democrats?

Liberals respond better to smugness than bullying. Just lord it over them and wait a few months to be right about something (as always). To well-meaning libs, don’t be mean, just have the “that’s ridiculous, fundie, but you’ll figure it out, bless your heart” attitude and it’ll work itself out.

  • Agree with everyone about cc debt but one addendum:

If you have a level head, go for the max limit allowed. Follow all other advice and auto-pay the statement balance every month no matter what. Never carry a balance, never pay a dime of interest.

A high limit can come in handy for a once in a lifetime emergency expense where the debt is somehow not as bad as whatever problem money can solve. It also boosts your credit score if you are ever in a position to buy property - the agencies like to see that “this person only uses 2-5% of their credit limit”.

  • First job out of uni:

    • you are interviewing for the industry not the job
    • thus, take whatever job will sign a paycheck into he industry you are comfortable working in (crappiest house in the nicest neighborhood approach)
    • from there people will probably start offering you jobs at random, even when you have like 1 months experience. More realistically take 12-18moonths at a shit job so you can complete a project and throw it on your resume, then look for your next hop (probably via a current coworker or internal posting or something)
    • government jobs are worth pursuing, if given the opportunity

  • People have nationalities, religion, culture and want borders between them and the other.

People want their material needs met, and when they get that in an unequal manner under the capitalist system, they want to enforce a border that enables the exploitation of the underclasses to continue. They follow along when the capitalist hegemony points the finger at other nationalities, religions and cultures cause they have no theoretical grounding. We have seen this recently with trump and co. Saying “see those sweatshop slaves in Asia? They need to pay their fair share! These tariffs will fix that” and the seals bark and clap for him.

A 19th century political philosophy isn’t doing to change that.

Implying that a political philosophy developed in direct response to capitalism isn’t relevant in the still-capialist global mode of production.

Implying that Marxist political philosophy hasn’t evolved since Marx. Hint: “Marxism-Leninism” was developed from and after Lenin, making it literally a 20th century development. Maoism later than that, not to mention other newer strains of Marxist theory that are adapted to current material conditions of the 21st century.

It will just cause a lot of people to die.

Implying that the Russian and Chinese revolutions (etc) “just caused a lot of people to die” and there’s nothing else, positive or negative, that can be learned from these events. Implying that all was well and peaceful before the communists just showed up one day and started killing everyone who disagreed.

I don’t even consider myself “M-L” or whatever, but I encourage you to develop a deeper analysis of these philosophies and historical events. They are going to have a larger and larger effect on your life as the PRC becomes the primary driver of the global economy that you participate in (whether or not you agree with their particular actions and activities)
