this is why geology is one of the GOATed majors. so many field trips.
yesssss. I finished my biology degree a couple of years ago, going out and scooping up creepy-crawlies or digging holes or picking flowers was the BEST.
still regret that I had a college that wanted me for their geology program but I was afraid I would never pay off the loans
I hike for fun and exercise and mostly observe rock formations and am constantly like “fuck I could have been paid to do this”
unfortunately your best chance of actually being paid would be for a resource extraction company
“mine geologist” or “oil company geologist” were my only options I knew of that would have (eventually) paid for that doctorate when i really wanted to do USGS
so yeah it sucks
Field trips aren’t for kids, they’re for the teachers.
That actually explains all the trips to the theatre.
I got to bring a group of civil engineers on a field trip to the local watershed as an adult, and it was so cool. We walked through a pristine mountain canyon (the actual watershed) and a dam (for the reservoir). Every time I open the water tap at home, I think about how cool it is that I know exactly where the water came from
What are you waiting for? Fuck off for the day and go check out the watermill.
I do that already, but it’s not the same.
I want a field trip. I want to show up to work and instead of working we get on a bus to go see something cool that I wouldn’t have thought of myself, likely with a prearranged guide.
I don’t want to drive myself. I don’t want to have to find and decide on something to go see. I don’t want to try and arrange some of my friends to do something like go see and old watermill.
instead of working we get on a bus to go see something cool that I wouldn’t have thought of myself, likely with a prearranged guide.
and still get paid!
:frizzle: get in the bus there is no time to explain
The closest I’ve had is going to natural history museums with my scientist coworkers on conference trips
