Yeah, they’re pretty unpleasant. I’ve had three. For one of them I went to a dentist who actually specializes in root canals, and that was one of the weirdest experiences of my life, because it was faaaast. Like, half an hour from local anesthetic to out the door. It was also really funny because you could see in the dentist’s face the moment he stopped seeing me as a human and started seeing me as a tooth. I don’t think I’ve ever had that experience before or since and I likely never will again, but that was wild! I’d go back to the guy, really. That speed just can’t be beat, even if I have to temporarily stop being a human for it to work. The other two were at a normal dentist and took well over an hour each, which sucked. But the dentist was really nice the whole time, checking frequently to make sure I was doing ok and such, which is cool. I definitely preferred the dehumanized speedy version, but clearly a root canal is a difficult procedure and most dentists will take a decent chunk of time with them.
