I don’t do well during interview assessments.
I’m slow and rusty.
Should I give up on trying to be a developer?
I would personally recommend trying to build some small projects at your own pace first, even replicating existing projects is a good way to practice. That can give you a potentially more comfortable way to hone your skill
Okay, I have a Github
You made it this far. Why would you give up now? That’s like running an obstacle course half-marathon (see Tough Mudder) and then giving up at the last obstacle because your not excelling at it.
Like. Seriously? If anything, you brush up on your basics. Practice coding in your own time.
it just doesn’t happen naturally for me. I was doing a Codewars assessment and I was really slow at the start to even remember syntax or how to start. Granted, I haven’t coded in a while. The bad thing is, I forgot what type of position I was applying for so I didn’t know what the assessment would be.
Well, you just identified your shortcomings. What are you going to do to fix that? Remembering things is rough for everyone. Just get some practice, make sure you prepare for your interviews, and nail the next one.
Don’t get rusty. Start a list of personal projects, and get practice doing those. I’m always working on QoL stuff for my home.
I should probably be a system administator.
