I like my bar mount with integrated wireless charger and recessed ports for the off chance I need to charge something else. Plus if it breaks I can swap it.
Cool idea. The USB-C port has to be much better protected than standard charging ports though. Those pins are way smaller and easier to destroy by road dust and grime than large barrel or XLR style connectors.
Hopefully the port itself is modular so it can be easily replaced. Some computer manufacturers have started doing this for USBc charging ports for some laptops.
I wonder if one can just strap this bad boy on to the frame for around 25% more battery capacity :D
Sure it would add a bit but that’s not a large capacity for ebike propulsion. It’s under 100Whr. The small bike batteries start at 250Whr. Also it won’t be enough to keep the bike running while biking since the peak of the port is 140W and bikes draw about 250 to maintain 25kph.
Yeah, a quite silly idea but not too far off (100Wh from powerbank vs around 340Wh of the bike - not negligible!) :)
Does the bicycle support being charged while riding? Or does it shut down for safety reasons?
Well it wouldn’t charge at all i believe, the output of a power bank is usually 5v. Instead your bike will charge your powerbank instead, since it’s a bi-directional port.
No, today most powerbanks with high wattage use EPR Power Delivery. The one I linked can charge up to 140W and should be able to charge the bike. Voltage is variable, in this case around 28V at 5A.
