This episode originally aired in 1999. The N64 was still current gen hardware, google was only a year old, Bill Clinton was the US President, the first iPod was still 2 years away.

The mods at 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone decided they didnt like the rules at Lemmy.blahaj.zone, and wanted to move to Lemmy.world.

Lemmy.world is… We’ll just say not great for lgbtqia+, especially in consideration of the “teach the controversy” rule that was coming from the admins and is “currently being reworded”.

Those mods closed 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone, and tried to force everyone to .world. Thus was met with… Disagreement.

They reopened 196@Lemmy.blahaj.zone, but the damage was done, and trust was lost. !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone was created as the safe alternative from the mods who wanted the ability to allow problematic commenters.

So thats about the story there.

Can you explain how world is notbgreat for LGBT people?

Or is this just about the whole neopronoun thing?

Listen, I ain’t huge on neo-pronouns but I use them anyways because I respect and care about people enough to use their preferred pronouns because no matter your reasons for not liking them, it doesn’t out weight the harm and disrespect you are doing to the other person. It is misgendering plain and simple, there is no real difference between misgendering someone who uses neopronouns and misgendering someone who doesn’t.

Yes, because your phrasing shows your lack of care around bigotry towards people who use neopronouns. Its misgendering plain and simple, no different than if you misgendered a transwoman or transman. It should carry that same weight. And if it doesn’t then you are not a trans ally because you are not supporting trans rights, just the ones that fit within your view of normalcy. Purposely misgendering anyone for any reason is insulting, disrespectful, and harmful.

I have no idea what 196 means. My attempts to google it seams to mean some sort of stream og conciousness. So does it mean post anything you like?

Once, there was a Reddit sub called 195 that was just named after the dorm number of the roommates who founded it. It got bigger than they intended and they shut it down, so 196 was made.

The only rule of 196 is to post before you leave, which is why most of the posts say “rule”.

Ie if a 196 post shows up, and you enter it, you’re now supposed to add a post to 196

I believe the original “rule” is relayed to a whiteboard on the dorm room door

You put something on it when you left, drew a picture, added to it.

The rule was “post before you leave”

          Ie take a penny/leave a penny

It’s a prophecy. When they reach 196 196-themed communities, 196 years of rule will begin.

I’m tempted to make a 196 piefed feed of just Lemmy communities so you can all be Spartacus.

Not really, another user explained it, but 196 at blahaj and world needed to be splintered from because of the mods, and the one on pawb is sprcifically for furry memes. 19684 i think also has a specific gimmick but im not sure what it is. So none of them are really interchangeable
