  • I guess the question is how long could covid be in a country before hospitals started getting flooded?

    The complicating factor here is that the American healthcare system is currently, at best, strained under the best possible conditions. Emergency rooms are often overcrowded, getting timely appointments is rare, and the up front cost is insanely prohibitive. Those barriers probably reduced the amount of people going to the hospital before the official announcement of COVID’s existence. All this is to say, COVID was probably present for a lot longer than we think. If I remember correctly, there was even some evidence from Italian sewage systems that it was present even in late summer of 2019.
