For TIME, Stephanie Zacharek wrote: “For every moment of raw, affecting insight there are zillions of milliseconds of Kaufman’s proving what a tortured smartie he is. I’m Thinking of Ending Things must have been arduous to make, and it’s excruciatingly tedious to watch.”
this is the movie that made me grow out off charlie kaufman

other good (probably better) ways to find music is good radio stations (NTS is a good one) or by looking through label catalogues, like check what labels your favorite artists are on and find what else they released (only possible on smaller labels that actually have an ethos). reissue labels are great too (just search like “best new reissues 2024” to find some good ones)

if everything is just going to get more and more dysfunctional life is just going to stop working altogether in a decade

peppersky [he/him, any]@hexbear.netto games@hexbear.net•Elden Ring Night Reign release trailerEnglish3·6 days agoGame does feel kinda “designed after industry trends” and one thing I did very much like about Fromsofts game so far was that they weren’t as “progression/grind/run-based” as so many other games out there (like it’s just not designed for you to play the same piece of game over and over again hoping for a random drop or something) and this seems to very much go into the opposite direction from that, but on the other hand, I do very much enjoy playing these games in coop (just this past weekend I did a dark souls 1 randomizer run with two friends) and the different characters and abilities and stuff all do seem pretty cool. Probably going to just be good mindless fun even if there’s kind of a bad aftertaste. I just hope all these side projects let them really take their time with their next big RPG

peppersky [he/him, any]@hexbear.netto chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•Harrowing thread on brainrot among youthsEnglish27·7 days agoAs soon as we could measure attention, capitalism decided to sell it to the lowest bidder. It really shouldn’t surprise anybody that kids growing up in an ever less-functional, less-rational world might get some weird ideas about how to survive within it. Things are changing and deteriorating at an ever faster pace, of course this is going to have an influence on people, and especially on younger people and kids.
That’s definitely the sentiment in that post. Really the most charitable interpretation of a post that starts with “I had a rough week”. I’m sure most parents would gladly spent more time interacting with and listening to their children, but most do have to work 40+ hours a week plus housework plus all the other shit one has to do as an adult, plus having the existential burden of living under late stage capitalism, none of which someone else does for you just because you had a baby.
