  • The median monthly mortgage in my small southeastern city is like $2600 a month. Housing here is genuinely some of the worst in the US, but being incredibly generous, let’s say this guys’ mortgage is $1700 a month. Plus another $1500ish in property taxes a year. That’s almost $22k just for the house alone. Leaves a paltry $6k if he’s living on $28k a year
