Can someone explain to me
- Why does he think Trump the yaphead would ever shut up about anything ever
- What good are “bilateral talks” with someone that can’t keep their word anyway ?
What is the point here trying to show everyone just how much of a illequipped, stay-the-course, liberal empty suit he is and how he’s going to boldly going to try to “do the same thing we’ve always done except not woke this time and hope it keeps working”
Don’t these people understand that the US is only good at one thing and it’s eating liberal banking stiffs alive ?
Are they trying to lose on purpose ?

This doesn’t say he does or he doesn’t think Trump can do it. It sets boundaries. This is how you deal with a narcissist. They will resist setting boundaries at all costs, but until they can show good faith by accepting even this very minimal one, we cannot move forward.

Obviously no one can trust Trump over the long term. But if he can eat some humble pie and stop making comments about Canadian sovereignty, that does go towards building trust over the short term. And that’s the best you can do with someone like this. We are obliged to deal with Trump and you haven’t presented a better course of action.

You should put your stilted commentary as a comment so we can upvote the article and downvote your ridiculous hot take.
Yeah what an awful take. The pm says I’m not gonna waste time while he’s making these comments. And op says what an empty lib threat.
Sounds like op wants Canada to join the US
I followed your lead on this and re-submitted it without the pathetic commentary
100% this.
We have a real dilemma here.
Your tone tell me you don’t try to understand the true advantage-disadvantage of Carney’s position because you already decided to undermine him from the very start. Disagreeing is just the start, you need to show the concept of an alternative behaviour and a reason as to why you think it will yield better results.
I, myself, agree with Carney so far and on this position. I don’t have pink glasses : it will sck being a Canadian citizen for many years. The thing is, it will suk just the same giving in to Trump, at least with our sovereignty intact we can grow over time after the initial turbulence subsides.
- What good are “bilateral talks” with someone that can’t keep their word anyway ?
Then logically your first quesiton doesn’t matter anyway.
I think this is Carney doing his job to diversify trade and not wasting time on conversations that won’t end in anything productive.
The only reason you go to Trump now is to capitulate, show weakness and reward bad behavior. We don’t maintain our sovereignty on bended knee.
Yeah. Carney may be a vanilla Liberal PM but he’s playing this right. He’s not engaging with Trump on Trump’s terms. He’s telling Trump to shut the fuck up about annexing Canada or there’s no discussion to be had.
If this is the best excuse for spin that you conservative shills can come up with, I almost feel sorry for you because it’s so incredibly pathetic.
I don’t feel sorry for you though. Apply for a green card and gtfo out of my country, OP.
Stay the course? He’s already canceled the carbon tax. Although I’m not sure why he thinks dumb dumb would keep his mouth shut because he asked him to. Probably not gonna work out well for him. He should just talk down to him the same way Trump does to us. He’s smarter than Trump so shouldn’t be hard.
I think the answer to 1 is that he doesn’t, so it’s just a good excuse to avoid getting pushed into a situation related to 2. In other words, the POV is likely, “there isn’t any point in bilateral talks, but let’s say we’ll do it if he shuts up about that thing that he can’t stop talking about” - it’s just a way to pin the blame for a lack of talks down South.
Carney is doing his due diligence.
This post is trash, I’m lucky I clicked to read the dumb comment. I scrolled read it and up voted because it made sense. I then clicked and saw the dumb comment part of it, so I had to down vote it.
As someone that’s lived in Alberta for several years this is the dumbest take I’ve seen. What Carney’s trying to do is to shift the focus and reestablish discussions for actual trade negotiations. Carney’s choosing not to play by the dictator’s narcisstic rules.
Well Trunp has already wiped his ass with CUSMA, and his word / signature is utterly worthless on international documents. Carney should NOT sit down with fascists liars who can’t not lie. Even if Trunp dials down (which he won’t) he’ll just turn around two seconds later and start up again with the 51st obscenity. I agree with Carney icing him out. Fuck the US.
Carney is probably the smartest man at the big table right now and he knows how to play the game.
This is gonna be interesting to watch.
Yes defintely. And I’m here for it. I heard part of a podcast today with someone who had worked with Carney and it was very enlightening. He’s a hard ass. The podcast was the most recent episode of One’s and Tooze and he talks about his experience working with Carney at minute 8 onwards.
Why does he think Trump the yaphead would ever shut up about anything ever
Why do you think that he does?

What Carney thinks Trump’s going to do doesn’t matter tbh. Carney’s the new kid on the block, and he’s showing he won’t entertain “Governor Trudeau” nonsense for even a second. The more Carney lets Trump do sideshows like with Zelenskyy that is going to tank the Liberal’s soaring approval.

Despite the abject moron at the other end of the agreement, Carney’s handling of a decades old partnership is also in the spotlight. Even if unrealistic or impossible to some degree (though I sense Canadian sympathy to Carney’s situation), there are expectations on Carney not to unilaterally blow up the relationship Canadians and Americans have with each other unreasonably.

Good idea, as much as i would like Canada to start a 51 % tariff on potash and energy export on April 2nd it would only cause the US population to rally with their government, not against it. It will be more effective to slowly build up while the rest of the world add their own tariff and consumer boycotts.
Yup. If Trump keeps on like this it’ll turn into a full-on embargo by dozens of nations.
