In my last game I sent him back to sanctuary and then could never find him again. I hope he’s happy.

(Among my other problems with Fallout4, it really hurts my suspension of disbelief when the dog like facetanks a mininuke and then is just… fine. I tell myself the protagonist is a synth and that’s why they’re nearly indestructible. Maybe the dog is, too.)

There’s no way dogmeat isn’t a synth, he’s a full coat, unblemished, purebred. Every other dog you meet is either a zombie or has a face like it regularly eats glass. Meanwhile the institute is responsible for all the ordinary looking animals. That dog’s been a narc from the start.

Shawn isn’t a companion. He’s just an annoying little shit who guilt trips you for leaving him to be nuked. Except for when he’s a condescending old bastard.

With the right mod, you can change your back story to be a synth and start out in the institute.

I tell myself that the aliens like dogs more than they want to stay hidden, so they give all doggos shields that we don’t know are there.

Is it ridiculous? Yes. But so is a dog walking off a landmine. And you know… The whole setting of fallout.
