This may be pedantic to point out, but no state of Seppoland could ever have been part of Mexico for longer than 27 years — the span of time between Mexico’s declaration of independence and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Even if we include being part of New Spain as “being part of Mexico”, then that just raises the question of when exactly you actually count a region as “being part of New Spain” as opposed to simply being claimed by Spain.
I dunno, I say “pedantic”, but it is probably good to keep in mind what the deeper implications of an assertion like “part of Mexico for hundreds of years” actually are. There are some worthwhile critiques of chicanismo and Mexican irredentism from Natives in these regions that make me wary of any rhetoric that seems too proximal to those ideologies.

claims of borders on european maps are different from realities on the ground but people from new spain/mexico definitely lived in the southwest united states for centuries before the US conquered them. this presence was long enough to develop dialects and cultural difference.
