I love tomatoes. Raw or processed. Cooked however. Almost as versatile as potatoes.

They are both part of the nightshade family, yes.
If you don’t know or can’t pronounce the botanical group, you usually just say they are “closely related (species)”.
They can cross pollinate even. But the fruits such a crossbreed produces are not as tasty as they are separately.
Would definitely be interesting if you could get two crops in one, harvest your tomatoes and then dig up your potatoes.
You can do that by grafting a tomato plant on top of a potato plant. It’s tricky, though, and IIRC you can end up with inedible tomatoes.
You haven’t tried the varieties that you can’t buy at the store.
Grow some Cherokee purple tomatoes, they will change your whole perspective on what a tomato should taste like. My SO disliked raw tomatoes until we took a chance on something different
You assume this is about taste.
In my case, when the texture of tomatoes touches the inside of my mouth I get the urge to vomit. When I was forced to eat them as a child, I literally ended up puking. The taste of Cherokee purple tomatoes will not change that.
A similar thing happens with egg plants, water mellons, and similar ‘squishy’ textures.
The taste of tomato paste, or ketchup? Love it.
Your SO and I are not the same.
The commercial Roma tomatoes are awful in taste and texture.
Budyonovki for example have a very different texture. Not squeaky but soft like a very ripe pear.
I have never had a desire to explore the numerous cultivars or varieties of tomatoes to determine if one was not going to make me vomit. Blind testing seems like a masochistic exercise now that I think of it.
With your description though, I might try a Budyonovki tomato (I assume Budenovka /
Будёновка
) if I am ever presented with one.Thank you for the tip.
Hey, I didn’t mean to pressure you into anything. It must be really tough with a reaction like this, wish you all the best.
Candy Sweet Icicle is another recommended variety. I never used them in anything because they go straight into my mouth as soon as they are ripe.
Meh. Eating them raw, whole ass like apple, no salt or whatevs. Sometimes with salt if I wanna. Putting in sandwhiches, eating in salads, or cut into pieces. Love em.
Bemoaning that I cannot put them in sandwhiches taken to work T-T They are too juicy and sandwhich becomes messy AF before break comes.
Salt
Diced is fine. Thin slices on sandwiches is fine.
Fat wedges or thick-ass slices though? IDK why, but ew.
Not bad topped with a bit of salt and pepper, but plain is just boring
cherry tomatoes are an amazing snack.
If I want raw tomato, I would at least salt & pepper it. Maybe with some cheese, but it’s delicious either way.
But I won’t feel too superior here, we all have this with some food
although it’s only normal with onions.
