I grew up with short grain rice (Japanese), so long grain always feels kinda… Dry and crumbly to me? Even if I cook indian food now, I still default to short grain because I have a bunch of it lying around.

Basmati is pretty long. Certainly a long way off the East Asian short grain like japonica rice.
