Why?
-
we blow up tons of shit anyway
-
we need to show fascists they don’t own the monopoly on violence
-
Look up operation blazing sword- LGBTQ and BIPOC folks need to arm themselves these days. It doesn’t necessarily mean owning a firearm in your home, but having knowledge of firearms and a local place to organize your community to defend against y’all-qaeda sounds like an okay idea nowadays

I fired a pistol for the first time two days ago and honestly it was fun
I don’t think there’s any such thing as a legitimate local militia anywhere in the US. Groups that call themselves such are inevitably just some flavor of right-wing nutjobs, and both state governments and the federal government tend to take a rather dim view of them in any case.
If you want to start your own, get ready to be labeled a domestic terrorist(s) instantly.
Arm yourself and learn to handle a weapon effectively, by all means. Just, the avenue you proposed is not very realistic.
If you want to take this offline, we should talk. Sounds like you have a long way to go before considering all this, and we should come together.

They’ve been the largest gun buying demographic for a few years. It’s the suburban white boys who didn’t get the memo.

Who do you think makes up these local militias?

This speaks volumes about this whole post.
There are all sorts of organizations that teach firearm safety and proper gun handling. No need to “join a militia” when you could just look at local gun clubs and shooting ranges.
For anyone in Minnesota the DNR has all sorts of options for training. If your LGBT+ or want to avoid running into right-wing types I’d suggest Sequeerity.
Well we better get fucking started on making our own.
Once again - operation blazing sword and the pink pistols are leftists, LGBTQ, and BIPOC defense focused groups.
There is nothing that says we can’t create our own militia, in fact there is something that says we can called the 2nd amendment.
I wish you luck but I think you’ll unfortunately find that most of the people willing to join a militia are exactly the type of people you don’t want in your militia. Dumb liabilities at best and violent psychos at worst.
Idk I don’t think there are MAGA assholes in the queer militia.
You’d be surprised. 2/5 gay people I know personally are crazy right wingers and you don’t have to be MAGA to be a trigger happy dunce either.
Also check your states laws for firearm ownership. I was diagnosed bipolar after being involuntarily hospitalized in 2015 in Spokane- according to Washington State law, I have a lifetime ban on owning a firearm, however I moved to Chicago where the ban is only 5 years long.
Many of us are disabled in some way, so the state may disenfranchise us for better or for worse, but I think it’s important we can defend ourselves.
It’s sad- 10 years ago I’d be fine with a firearm ban, but the world changed. Its time we focus on community safety, and especially for us who don’t wear red hats.
wait, you have a lifetime ban for firearms because of bipolar, but in Chicago Bipolar diagnosis only gives you 5 year ban? do they expect people to be cured of it in 5 years?
slight asside, I needed to be hospitalised a couple times, and I probably should have, hope you’re ok. life is hard
If you have bipolar, but you haven’t been hospitalized in 5 years for a serious episode, you probably have it managed pretty well.
You at least have it managed as well as a normal person has of their brain. Which, as we know, ain’t that good.
I mean I’ve been listed as in remission for the past 5 years so something is going right
In VA it’s the involuntary commitment that’ll getcha…
Everyone should stay faar away from anything calling itself a militia, even if it was originially done ironically. It is basically a self-fulfilling prohpecy and it will attract the wrong type of people.
If you actually want to learn, contact your nearest competetive shooting club. They usually have “open days” where people can come in and try guns while learning some of the basics.
Nah, I have no wish to join a militia.
I can only imagine the brainpower a gun nut meeting attracts
If that’s your thing there’s no reason to wait until a particular day. But if you think you and your freedom fighting weekend target shooting camo buddies are going to fend off the US armed forces, well… LOLOLOLOL. There are much smarter and less doomed ways to fight fascism. Unfortunately none of them involve looking at memes on your phone.
