Basically, house Republicans voted to defund DC police because even though it’s not federal money, they fact that that have the power to pass laws affecting DC means that they can claim these as “cuts”. Again, defunding the DC police doesn’t help the federal government save a dime. But it’s technically a budget cut, just not the budget cut they’re supposed to working on. Yes, it’s that silly.
Oh, that brings joy to me. Had a friend who “serves” in DC police. Not a friend anymore as he gladly picked 51st state bs and started trolling, praising their cartoonish fuhrer.
I’d even talk to him again if gets defunded and laid off. With glee.
DC Police weren’t exactly fans of January 6th. Could this be a move to weaken an opposition to a possible coup?
The cops let it happen, though.
No, they stood against it, putting their bodies on the line, with one dying. They just critically undermanned the defences. All cops are bastards, but they can also sometimes do the right thing, and they did in this case.
The insurrectionists also killed a cop.
“Defund the police!”
“… No, wait, not by the baddies!”
The 2nd step is using the funds to alleviate poverty and creating other organizations to handle mental health crisises IIRC.
Ah… Will you settle for soothing billionaires’ egos and making them richer?
Tell me you’re planning an insurrection without telling me you’re planning an insurrection.
How’s that thin blue line doing?
It’s private military contractor time!
In a nice, brown uniform and operated by the republican party!
I suspect they’re about to replace them with armed murder drones.
Can’t have a coup if they don’t bring the military in. Robots won’t have a moral dilemma and back the people.
When did Republicans become the party of defunding the police?
The good news is that we now have one party interested in defunding the police.
The bad news is that they’re a party of criminals who have a vested interest in doing so.
The moment they had the power to cut funding so they could give more tax breaks go the rich.
Specifically, this action talked about in the article is an addition to the GOP spending bill which is awaiting vote in the senate OR upon filibuster could be handed back to the house for reconciliation.
The bill also cuts medicare, agriculture, education, and commerce investments.
They’re looking to halve the deficit by cutting 2 Trillion in spending so that they can extend their TCJA tax cuts which adds 4.5 trillion net loss for the government.
THE HEIGHT OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY CUTTING PROGRAMS THAT BANK A NET GAIN OVER TIME
It kind of feels like tacking on the defund the police thing is so that headlines like this can be run. And Republicans then can be like “ohhh democrats DONT want to defund the police? Would you look at that! 😏”
When really, any resistance will be over the cuts to social entitlements and welfare as you helpfully pointed out.
I feel like I’m trapped in the SAW House and a bunch of people with me keep insisting it’s a normal house and we are waiting for the dinner party to start. And I keep screaming, The invitation said DONNER PARTY
Either way— thanks for writing that out for everyone it’s kind of you to take the time :)
So that’s where the refund the police movement went wrong? They just needed to say they would use the money to enrich themselves? Or no, it has to be like already established rich whites?
No refund without a receipt
I’m not in a position to type out a long comment, but this link should give you the answers you need.
Why is the GOP so soft on crime?!
Because they have a hardon for insurrectionists?
They are setting things so they cant be stopped. This is all phase 1.
I think you mean they’re setting things so they can only be stopped a certain way.
bAck tHE BLue
What about the thin blue line as the libs were calling for defunding the police?
just like the military, they outlived thier usefulness.
They are projecting so hard
More like vomit projecting.
Republicans say Defund the police? We are through the looking glass, up is down, down is up, democrats have a spine, dogs and cats living together!
Democrats have a spine lol good one
A spine as strong as peeled banana.
Gun bans next?
Mass Listeria!
I wish that were a typo
I feel like this is not going to work out in the way they think it will
They are positioning to not transition any power ever. 50501
Isn’t it surreal to imagine this administration not ratfucking elections? Isn’t it hard to imagine them ever ceding power peacefully? The legal challenges can and should occur, but they’re not going to save us in the end I fear.
As a wise (???) man once said: The courts have made their decision, now let them enforce it.
Legal challenges will not be enough.
There’s a checklist, with a box after the jury box.
Ah shit
