Turning to AI for social needs is a horrible idea and very exploitable by capitalists.

If you can’t convince someone not to form this kind of attachment, its better for them to run an llm locally to talk too using olama. Still better to get your social needs from humans but it’s better to vape then smoke cigs too 🤷

the original video is WILD, the guy says “this is actual love” and then shortly afterwards it cuts to his wife and child

this kind of thing makes me sad, really… there’s something fundamentally vulnerable about mankind, we have a tendency to develop emotional connections with things around us, and then we get predatory corporate operations such as OpenAI actively banking on that tendency in order to generate interest in their product

I can’t really bring myself to be angry with people like this dude, I feel sorry for him and irrationally angry with OpenAI and their ilk

I’m sorry but lmaooooooooo (about cutting to wife and child).

You gotta wonder if their relationship is so in the dumps that they barely talk to each other as human beings; so he thinks that a chatbot is a better relationship.

    • It’s really sad for me both in the abstract and in this dude’s case, and for the same reasons: what kind of life does this man have to be so alienated from the love that you feel from others that a poor facsimile of affection is enough for you to “fall in love”.

Its pretty common to the point there’s a whole sub about it on reddit-logo r/myboyfriendisai. LLMs are sycophantic for the most part, so this sort of thing is going to happen as part of engagement which is encouraged above all else. Crapitalism’s alienation meets tech, if mirrors were new we’d have actual Narcissus. Aside from making poor spouseos they make not so good therapists for the same reason, sure prompting helps but only so much, now running LLMs specialty trained can help but again, we’re doing pattern recognition to generation, so again only so much.

In love there’s a degree of privacy, the fact like near all of them just use openai, chatgpt etc for it is shocking to me since those logs aren’t entirely private while they may strip quite a bit of it away various tech workers will be reading fragments of cybering the chatbot for lack of a better phrase. While I find it a case of fly on the wall channel my inner party-sicko I know others absolutely do not feel that way.

Look i fully get that political lesbianism is blackpilled and terf adjacent and full of essentialist assumptions, but sometimes you just get reminded that at least in the patriarchal reality we live in, there’s something deeply and utterly wrong about men and by “sometimes” i mean about hourly.

I don’t care if I’m called prude or whatever this is bloody true. And let’s be real a lot of dudes out here expecting women to adhere to strict gender roles… and mfs can’t so much as change a tyre. thats-why-im-confused. If they knew the expectations of of men back in my day they’ll hush all that talk right quick

There is definitely something wrong. Many people are saying it, and it’s a worldwide phenomenon, and it’s deeply layered. I don’t know anything about this guy, but it’s so common for even a “regular dude” to be totally cut off from any sort of communication about their own emotions, that talking to a chatbot about his feelings is a revelatory experience for him.

You don’t have to be an essentialist to look at the situation as it is for the vast majority of men and feel like it’s best to just check out. Just like you don’t have to believe that people are biologically predisposed to be fascists to flee a fascist country. You just do what you gotta do shrug-outta-hecks

the complete alienation of society and dissolution of the most intimate human relations in real time

Things didn’t used to be better, they just weren’t quite as weird and pathetic as a married man falling in love with a fancy autocomplete bot. I mean if this was 70 years ago that guy would be abusing his secretary or developing a parasocial relationship with a pinup poster of some actress.

You’re teaching me something here because honestly I thought it was a legit thing. Men are generally atrocious, I totally understand women who want to get the f away. I get how political lesbianism can be problematic, just like you said, but I’m NOT feeling like criticizing women who choose to disengage for any reason at this point

Men (especially white men) are raised to expect a dominant position in society. The abundance of those dominant positions has been waning for fifty years but the way society gasses up young men hasn’t changed, which leads to increasingly broken brained men. Women and minorities are conditioned to expect a lower/subservient/supportive role in society so they cope with drought of dominant positions much better.

I have empathy for it but any solution short of lesbian Pol Pot seems to be insufficient. Maybe we all need to start worshipping Stalin more openly and he’ll gain power in the warp like the Emperor of Mankind and be able to finally do something about it all.
